Greetings and Welcome!

I am Brother Martelle T. Morrison, 2020-2023 President of Xi Phi Lambda also known as the “Summerville Alphas.”   I greet you in the spirit of Jewel Henry Arthur Callis who stated that, “The chief significance of Alpha Phi Alpha lies in its purpose to stimulate, develop, and cement an intelligent, trained leadership in the unending fight for freedom, equality and fraternity. Our task is endless.”  Since the founding of our dear fraternity on December 4, 1906, Alpha has remained at the forefront of inspiring communities around the world, through service and advocacy.  As a nine-year member of this great organization, I am fueled by this audacious task and yet remain hopeful, ambitious and committed to the work of Alpha.  During my presidency and my past terms as Vice-President, I routinely encourage our brothers to remain engaged, stay true to their initial commitment to the fraternity and work to not only enhance the chapter, but elevate our community as a whole.

Founded in 1984, the Xi Phi Lambda Chapter is a progressive, growing, constantly-evolving and brotherly chapter; that constantly seeks ways to expand our reach by continually serving our surrounding communities.  We are a membership of around 40 plus brothers from various backgrounds serving Summerville, SC and surrounding areas within Berkeley County, SC.  Not only are we committed to the fraternity’s National Programs, but we actively support the March of Dimes, the Annual Salvation Army Holiday Bell Ringing Campaign, the SC Adopt-A-Highway, the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Walk and various other service efforts.  Most recently, with the inception of the first Black Ice Gala, a formal fundraising event, the chapter partnered with Alston Bailey Elementary School and donated towards its school lunch debt.  On October 5, 2019, under the joint leadership with our Past Immediate President, Damien Seabrook, the Xi Phi Lambda Chapter won the coveted title, SC District of Alpha Chapter of the Year for the first time in our then 35 year history.
